My wife expressed an interest in pottery around Christmas time. Naturally, I looked into buying a pottery wheels and clay. This can be an expensive hobby. It can aslo be messy and takes up a fair amount of room. A lightbulb moment then flashed in my brain. " We should take a class!".
Fast forward to January. We took an introductory class at The Newburgh Pottery. Two quick takeaways that are very easy to comprehend. 1. It was fun. Messy fun that shared by my wife and the others in the class. 2. It is harder than it looks. It is not like you see in the movies. Complex ceramics takes time, patience and skill. The third point I want to make is bit harder to comprehend. The creation of art is not a realm that belongs to the reasonably talented. It doesn't matter if everyone likes or dislikes your creation. If you paint, sing, dance or even make pottery, no one has the right to judge your work unless you are trying to generate revenue. That means the key to achieving artistic freedom is simply trying. Taka a class, sing along with a song on the radio or just get a box of crayons. What happens after that is an experience only you can create. Life gives us as many chances as we are willing to take. Whay not take a chance on art?
